The delegation of ZJU-ISM visits Hong Kong and Macao, initiating cooperation across multiple domains of medical science

From January 18th to 19th, The delegation led by Xu Jian, the Secretary visited Hong Kong and Macao, including the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Macau (MU), as well as the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) and Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK Medicine). Professor Ying Songmin, Dean for Research also participated in the visit.


On the first day of their visit to the MU, Professor Ge Wei, the Vice President of the MU and other senior colleagues extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Professor Ge, the Vice President of the MU, introduced the latest developments of the MU and highlighted the solid foundation for deepening cooperation between the two sides.




During the visit, the visiting delegation held in-depth discussions with the leaders of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences at the MU, and they had exchanges on the next step of the “4+2” joint training program for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of Surgery) students. Secretary Xu expressed the hope of further cooperation and jointly cultivating more high-quality international medical students. The two sides will sign a memorandum of cooperation soon to promote substantial cooperation and exchange.

On the 19th, Secretary Xu and the delegation visited the HKUMed, where they were welcomed by Professor Chak-sing Lau, the Dean of HKUMed. Professor Lau mentioned that the visit was the first Mainland delegation to HKUMed in the past three years. Professor Lau hoped that there could be even closer cooperation and communication between ZJU and HKU in various domains in the medical field.





On the 19th, Secretary Xu and the delegation visited the HKUMed, where they were welcomed by Professor Chak-sing Lau, the Dean of HKUMed. Professor Lau mentioned that the visit was the first Mainland delegation to HKUMed in the past three years, which raised everyone’s spirits. Professor Lau hoped that there could be even closer cooperation and communication between ZJU and HKU in various domains in the medical field.




Secretary Xu expressed appreciation for the innovative training applied to the MBBS program and conveyed the potential for substantial cooperative projects between HKUMed and ZJU-ISM in areas such as talent cultivation and scientific research.


The delegation also visited the Centre of Assisted Reproduction and Embryology, HKU-Queen Mary Hospital (HKU-QMH CARE) and the Center for Comparative Medicine Research, and had further productive discussion with the professors.On the same day, the delegation visited CUHK Medicine, the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Clinical Skills Center. Professor Lan Hui Yao, the Associate Dean of CUHK Medicine, expressed his admiration for ZJU’s initiative to establish an International Medical Center in Yiwu. Secretary Xu shared his hope for the two sides to enhance interdisciplinary and personnel exchanges and extended a warm invitation to the attendees to visit and exchange in Yiwu.






On the same day, the delegation visited CUHK Medicine, the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Clinical Skills Center. Professor Lan Hui Yao, the Associate Dean of CUHK Medicine, expressed his admiration for ZJU’s strategy to establish ZJU4H and ZJU-ISM and the resulting achievements, as well as the research platform of the International Institutes of Medicine, Zhejiang University (ZJU-IIM). Secretary Xu shared his hope for the two sides to enhance inter-disciplinary exchanges and personnel visits and extended a warm invitation to the attendees to visit and exchange in Yiwu.






Overall, the visit was highly successful and took a critical step towards substantial cooperation with institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
