From June 19th to June 20th, 2023, the International Microwave Ablation Training was held at The Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZJU4H). More than 30 foreign professors, doctors, and interns from 10 countries (e.g. Philippines, Nepal, India) were attracted to learn how to advance their expertise in microwave ablation technology. The training program included theoretical study, operation observation and simulation operation.

Three trainees shared their ideas and feelings about the two-day training.

“I was really impressed by the operation on liver tumors conducted by Professor Tang Zhe (a renowned physician, also Vice President of ZJU4H), and have examined the latest technology that is very useful to improve my abilities in this field. I hope to further my study at ZJU4H next year and am looking forward to more results.” Cindy Pearl Joaquin Sotalbo, a doctor from Philippine General Hospital said.
“Everyone here is so efficient, and I was amazed at the excellent operations. I hope the technology can also be applied in our nation.” Said Alan Jay Penaso Lapore, a doctor from Southern Philippines Medical Center.

“Microwave ablations of thyroid tumors and breast cancer are totally new fields to me. Compared with traditional therapies, microwave ablation technology can help the patients recover more quickly and improve their life quality. I will share the knowledge and techniques gained during this training with the doctors back home and cure the sick.” said Manish Thapa, a doctor and associate professor from Nepal Army Hospital.
“One of our key areas of expertise lies in the field of ablation technology which is one of the most effective ways to treat a series of diseases, for example, liver tumors. The technology can also meet the patients’ requirements of lower expenses and shorter hospitalization. We will spare no effort in training international doctors and benefiting the world’s population.” concluded Professor Tang Zhe.
