Inspiring Lecture on Medical Careers, Echoing ZJU-ISM's Commitment to Excellence in International Education
On January 5th, 2024, Prof. Yu Bin from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine delivered an insightful lecture on “Career in Medicine”. The event saw an impressive turnout with over 500 international students from ZJU and 26 other medical schools in China, participating on-site or online.
Prof. Chen Weiying, Vice Dean for International & Student Affairs at ZJU-ISM, opened the event by expressing her hope that the students would gain valuable insights from the lecture and prepare early for their careers, aiding them in their journey to become future health professionals of excellence. Her words set the tone for an enlightening session.

The lecture, expertly delivered by Prof. Yu Bin, focused on four critical areas: career choices in medicine, medical education in the UK, medical education in the USA, as well as an overview of PLAB ( Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) and USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination). This comprehensive approach provided students with a broad perspective of the medical field, equipping them with knowledge crucial for making informed decisions about their future careers. Following the lecture, Prof. Yu Bin engaged in an interactive Q&A session, answering various questions posed by the students.

The response to the lecture was overwhelmingly positive.
“ I am incredibly grateful to both ZJU-ISM and Professor Doctor Yu Bin for providing a lecture with such invaluable information. By providing information on the USMLE and PLAB examinations, Doctor Yu Bin helped to dispel many uncertainties about the examinations and encouraged us to study well and prepare in advance. On top of this, he also provided information on some of the top countries to practice medicine as an International Medical Graduate (IMG).” Said Amoz Chin, a Canadian MBBS student.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and found it exceptionally interesting. Professor Yu explained the complex steps of becoming a doctor in the US and the UK in a structured and engaging manner. For the USMLE and PLAB exams, which were the highlights of the lecture, Professor Yu dove deep into the exact details. The list of tested materials that Professor Yu shared, in particular, enabled attendees to know what to prepare and get an early headstart. In short, it was a fun and informative one-hour lecture, and I was glad to have the opportunity to attend it in person.” Said Theodora Elva, an Indonesian MBBS student.
Following the webinar successfully held on March 10th, 2023 focusing on FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, India) and career planning for Indian MBBS student, this event is another testament to ZJU-ISM's ongoing efforts to support international students.
