2024 Qiushi Medical Education Forum Successfully Hosted

On November 10, the 2024 Qiushi Medical Education Forum, co-hosted by Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the International School of Medicine at Zhejiang University (ZJU-ISM), was successfully organized in Hangzhou. Experts and scholars from all over the world gathered together to discuss how to integrate artificial intelligence technology into medical education, innovate talent training models, and promote the high-quality development of medical education.

Huang Hefeng, Dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Dean of ZJU-ISM, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, extended a warm welcome to the visiting leaders and experts via video. She stressed that medical colleges and universities serve as a crucial intersection for medical science and technology, health talents, and medical technology innovation. This intersection is of great significance for promoting the integrated development of education, science, and technology, as well as for building a strong education nation and a healthy China.

Li Xiaoming, Vice President of Zhejiang University, pointed out that medical colleges and universities play a pivotal role in the “Healthy China 2030” initiative, and should continue to expand new areas and create new advantages to promote the innovative development of medical education. He emphasized that information technology such as artificial intelligence have brought new opportunities for medical education, and Zhejiang University has actively invested in AI-empowered education to improve teaching efficiency through digital means.

Paul M. Rea, an Adjunct Professor at ZJU-ISM, gave a keynote speech entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Medical Education" at the forum, mainly introducing the development history and current situation of artificial intelligence, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence in medical education and its impact on health care. Chen Weiying, Vice Dean of ZJU-ISM, presided over the session.

As the discussions and presentations came to an end, there was a renewed sense of commitment to continue the dialogue and to implement the insights gained from the forum into actionable strategies that will enhance medical education and, ultimately, improve global health outcomes.
