Building on Zhejiang University, one of China’s top higher education institutions as well as one of its oldest, the International School of Medicine of Zhejiang University (ZJU-ISM) aims high from the moment of its inception. With its medicine listed among the top 0.1% on Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ranking list, the University is confident and eager to extend medical education and research into its Yiwu campus in the central region of Zhejiang Province.

The birth of our brand-new campus aligns with the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Healthy China 2030 Plan to address issues and challenges in the health arena. Adhering to the spirit of “truth and innovation” (the University motto), ZJU-ISM is committed to promoting human health and well-being through excellent clinical education, research and care. The upcoming ZJU-ISM, which is destined to open in 2023, will nurture the next-generation of health professionals, foster innovative scholarly activity and deliver compassionate care to the region and beyond.

In the quest for better care and scientific breakthroughs, our scientists work jointly with clinicians to conduct cutting-edge research focusing on reproductive health, oncology, regeneration and aging, metabolism, brain health and genomics. Be it for the discovery of the inter-generational transmission mechanism of diabetes or fertility preservation, our physicians and scientists are unyieldingly dedicated to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment, and changing the face of medicine.

With both biomedical and clinical faculty from the University and its teaching hospitals, our programs are benchmarked to global standards to educate physicians who are clinically, culturally and socially competent in future health systems. We have implemented a competency-driven, integrated multi-disciplinary curriculum. This is achieved through both lectures and small-group tutorials. We instill new professionalism through early clinical experience, community and global health service, and lifelong learning. In the meantime, the school builds and strengthens its international academic and clinical partnerships to enrich students’ global perspectives and opportunities.
