Fostering Sino-UAE Healthcare Partnerships: Dubai Health Authority Delegation and Gulf Medical University Explores Collaborations with Zhejiang University

On January 16, Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director of Dubai Health Authority, led a delegation to Zhejiang University. The visit included a fruitful meeting with Li Xiaoming, Vice President of Zhejiang University, laying the foundation for potential partnerships.

Li Xiaoming extended a warm welcome to the delegation, emphasizing the extensive cooperation prospects in the health sector. He highlighted Zhejiang University’s commitment to global open development and its dedication to working hand in hand with international partners for sustainable progress. Against the backdrop of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the UAE in 2024, Li expressed hope for active exchanges between the two entities.

Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi provided a brief overview of Dubai’s healthcare landscape, expressing a desire for mutual understanding and collaborative efforts to contribute to the development of medical and healthcare initiatives in China and the UAE.

Chen Weiying, Vice Dean of the International School of Medicine, Zhejiang University (ZJU-ISM), gave an introduction of ZJU-ISM. The discussions between the delegations covered a wide range of topics, including student exchanges, scientific research, and collaborative healthcare initiatives.

Furthering the engagement, on January 19, a delegation of six led by Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of the Gulf Medical University in the UAE, visited ZJU-ISM and the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University of School of Medicine(ZJU4H). The delegation was warmly received by Vice President of ZJU4H Xu Zhihao, who engaged in discussions with the visitors exploring potential collaborations in areas such as student recruitment, hospital elective programs, faculty training, and joint educational programs.

During the visit, the delegation toured various departments, including the pharmacy, pathology, and radiology departments at the ZJU4H, as well as the campus of ZJU-ISM.

The exchange aimed to deepen mutual understanding and pave the way for future collaborations between the healthcare institutions of Zhejiang University and their counterparts in the UAE.
