On January 14, 2026, Chinese Medical Association officially announced the recipients of the 2025 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award.
The project titled "New Strategies for Precision Prevention and Control of Pediatric Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Their Clinical Application and Promotion", led by Professor Minxin Guan from the Center for Genetic Medicine, International Institute of Health Medicine, Zhejiang University(ZJU-IIM), was awarded the Second Prize. Notably, this achievement is the only award granted to the field of otology in China this year.
For over three decades, Professor Guan’s team has been dedicated to advancing research in pediatric hearing loss. Through sustained and systematic investigation, the team has elucidated key pathological mechanisms underlying hearing loss, established a comprehensive genetic screening and diagnostic system, and independently developed a domestically produced cochlear implant-breaking longstanding international technological monopolies in this area.
These achievements have reached an internationally advanced level, significantly contributing to the reduction in the incidence of pediatric sensorineural hearing loss and alleviating its associated social and economic burdens.
This award represents not only high recognition of the team’s scientific excellence and clinical impact, but also a major milestone for ZJU-IIM in the fields of otology, genetic medicine, and translational medical research.
