The Secretary-General of the Tanzanian National Commission for UNESCO led a delegation to visit the International School of Medicine and the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University.

From September 30 to October 1, 2025,Professor Khamis Mareber, Secretary-General of the Tanzanian National Commission for UNESCO and Chief Research Scientist of the National Center for Medical Research,led a delegation to visit the International School of Medicine, Zhejiang UniversityZJU-ISMand the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on medical talent training, scientific research cooperation and the integrated development of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.


On September 30, the delegation visited the ZJU-ISM. During the tour of the digital operation and maintenance dashboard and modern teaching facilities, Professor Mareber highly praised the Medical School's achievements in international teaching and smart campus initiatives. During the visit, Lou Xiaoxiao, Vice Dean of the ZJU-ISM, systematically introduced the integration achievements of the school, hospital, and research institute in medicine, education, and research. Both sides reached a preliminary agreement on cooperation in medical education, academic exchange, and scientific research.




On October 1, the National Day of the People's Republic of China, a time of national celebration, the delegation visited the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine for an on-site inspection. Accompanied by Vice President Zhou Wei and others, the foreign guests visited the Respiratory Medicine Center, the International Outpatient Department, the modern pharmacy, and the International Health Center. Faced with the efficiently operating dispensing robots, the intelligent drug delivery system, and a series of smart healthcare scenarios, the delegation members frequently expressed their admiration, believing that the digital practices of Chinese hospitals have significant reference value.


During the exchange, Professor Mareber stated, "This visit has beenvery inspiring. We are deeply impressed by China's achievements in the field of healthcare, especially in the integration of modern and traditional medicine. We look forward to introducing this successful model to Tanzania to help improve our healthcare system."


When discussing his most memorable experiences during the visit ,Professor Mareber emphasized,"China is a close friend of Tanzania, providing us with unwavering support in many areas, including infrastructure, health, and agriculture. We hope to further deepen cooperation in areas such as personnel training and technology transfer, and promote the 'Health Silk Road' to take root in Tanzania."


At the end of his visit, Professor Mareberalso congratulated China on its development achievements. He stated that China's development into a major global economy provides a valuable example for Tanzania. He sincerely congratulated the People's Republic of China on its 76th anniversary and looked forward to further deepening cooperation between the two countries in areas such as infrastructure construction, education, and healthcare, creating a win-win future together.

This exchange not only deepened mutual trust and cooperation between China and Tanzania in the field of medical and health care, but also further enhanced the influence and visibility of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University and ZJU-ISM on the international medical stage. Officials from the Tanzania Drug and Pharmaceutical Authority and heads of Chinese-funded medical institutions in Tanzania also accompanied the visit.
